The Egg Shed is officially open! by Oliver Chapman

A brilliant day out for the team last week at the official opening of The Egg Shed, our community and heritage centre for Scottish Canals in Ardrishaig. Situated right on the edge of Loch Gilp, the new building provides a destination for learning about the rich heritage of the area alongside facilities for both visitors and local residents. It was great to see so many people enjoying the new exhibits and public realm, not to mention the beautiful Scottish sunshine!

We're enjoying the combination of glorious weather and great progress on site in Ardrishaig, where the slab and sea wall are now complete. The site's location on the edge of Loch Gilp means that flood resistance has been a key consideration in our design, with changes in materials above and below a datum that will run through the building.

Extension to Arts & Crafts house receives Planning and Listed Building Consent by Oliver Chapman

Trinity house extension arts and crafts model oca.jpg

OCA are delighted to be be working with clients who own an Arts & Crafts house in Trinity, Edinburgh. It is a great opportunity to interpret that tradition, forming nooks with a new perimeter edge spaces and stepping the section underneath an over-sailing roof.

The use of materials such as Douglas fir, Petersen brick and copper will continue the craftsmanship of the existing house. Care has been taken to make the new copper roof respond to the existing cascade of roof planes at the rear, locking it into the building’s geometry and opening the house up to the garden.

Planning and Listed Building Consent have been granted

Twenty years of Oliver Chapman Architects is more than cause for a celebration! Thanks to everyone who came along - it was a great evening of interesting conversation in a truly unique space.
